Parma fire department
The Parma Fire Department is a fire department located in the Cleveland suburb of Parma. It provides fire and EMS services to the city of Parma.
Early Beginnings
The Parma Fire Department was founded in 1924 by Captain Meckenna his son, Robert, and Raymond Uhinck. The newly formed fire department purchased a brand new 1924 American Lafrance engine. On January 16, 1930 the fire and police departments moved to a new headquarters at the corner of Snow Rd. and Dresden Ave.
Expansion
The Fire Department continued to expand. It gained a new station in 1950. In 1958 another fire station opened and the department purchased a 100-foot aerial ladder truck as well as a rescue truck. In 1969, the department expanded again for the final time adding two more stations. In 1977 the department purchased a new 1977 Articulating Platform Snorkel, which replaced the old 1957 American Lafrance.
Recent Events
The department has been purchasing all new apparatus. It is in a new black and red color scheme. The old color scheme was white and red. The department opened two new stations in May of 2007. The new stations are replacing the old stations one and two.
