P3O

P3O is the guidance published by the Office of Government Commerce, a department in the UK Government, to help organisations overcome the many challenges they face in portfolio, programme and project management by implementing Project, Programme and Portfolio Offices (P3O).

As per the foreword in the P3O manual 'P3O provides universally applicable guidance that will enable individuals and organisations to establish, develop and maintain appropriate business-support structures'.

The P3O manual has supporting accreditation in place for foundation and practitioners which can be attained via an examination.

The P3O guidance covers five main areas: 1 - Introduction to Project, Programme and Portfolio Offices (P3O) 2 - Why have a P3O? 3 - What is a P3O model? 4 - How to implement or re-energise a P3O? 5 - How to operate a P3O - tools and techniques

The guidance is also supported by varied appendix structures ranging from the roles and responsibilities required for P3O to Example business cases for Project, Programme and Portfolio offices and also examples of tools and techniques.

The guidance aligns itself to other OGC guidance such as, Prince2, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), and also Management of Portfolios (MoP)
