Oxbow Partners is a management consulting firm specialising in the insurance and reinsurance industries. The firm is headquartered in London with an additional office in New York City and provides consulting and market research services to insurers, reinsurers, insurance brokers and investors.
Oxbow has produced research on the Lloyd's and London insurance markets, insurance technology and the role of insurance in the energy transition. It has undertaken research with industry organisations including the London Market Group and the Lloyd's Market Association. The firm and its analysts have also been cited in the Financial Times on developments in the British insurance industry.
History
Oxbow Partners was founded in 2015 by Chris Sandilands and Greg Brown. The firm was established as a specialist management consultancy focused on the insurance industry.
The firm subsequently expanded its consulting activities across the insurance and reinsurance sectors, with a particular focus on the Lloyd's and London insurance markets.
In January 2026, the firm announced the establishment of an office in New York City, its first permanent presence in the United States.
Consulting and market research
Oxbow Partners specialises exclusively in the insurance industry. Its consulting work covers strategy, operations, technology and transformation, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
The firm also operates a market intelligence practice which publishes research on the insurance and reinsurance industries. Its research has covered the Lloyd's and London markets, insurance technology, underwriting models and trends in the United Kingdom's retail insurance market.
Insurance technology research
Oxbow began publishing research on insurance technology, or insurtech, during the expansion of investment in technology-led insurance businesses in the 2010s.
Its InsurTech Impact 25 reports identified emerging technology businesses which the firm assessed as having the potential to influence the insurance industry.
The firm's research on insurance technology has subsequently included studies of technology adoption by insurers and the use of artificial intelligence in insurance and reinsurance.
Lloyd's and London Market research
Oxbow Partners has produced a number of studies concerning the structure and development of the Lloyd's and London insurance markets.
In 2023, the London Market Group published No Insurance, No Sustainable Future, a report written by Oxbow Partners examining the role of insurance in supporting investment in projects associated with the transition to net zero. The research drew on InterViews with brokers, Lloyd's syndicates and insurance companies operating in the London Market. The report examined the role of insurance during the financing, construction, operation and decommissioning stages of energy and infrastructure projects.
In 2024, Oxbow published research into the development of "enhanced underwriting" in the Lloyd's market. The study drew on interviews with 85 senior insurance executives representing organisations accounting for 77 per cent of Lloyd's 2023 gross written premium.
The firm has also undertaken research with the Lloyd's Market Association. In 2026, the association and Oxbow published Lead and Follow in the Lloyd's and London Market: Beyond The Binary, examining changes in the roles of lead and follow underwriters. The study was based on interviews with 41 senior market participants and a survey of 60 insurers and brokers.
The report developed a six-category framework for different underwriting roles and found that almost two-thirds of survey respondents expected the number of lead markets to decline over the following five to ten years.
Financial Times coverage and rankings
Oxbow Partners has been included in the Financial Times annual ranking of the United Kingdom's leading management consultants. The firm appeared in The Newspaper's inaugural ranking of British management consultancies in 2018 and has subsequently been included in the rankings on multiple occasions.
In the 2024 rankings, Oxbow received a bronze rating in the insurance sector. In 2025, it received a silver rating for insurance consulting.
The Financial Times has also cited Oxbow Partners and its analysts in reporting on the British insurance industry. Its analysis has been used in coverage of motor and home insurance premiums, reforms to insurance pricing practices, the use of artificial intelligence in insurance claims and changes in the economics of customer loyalty in retail insurance.
