Out Go the Lights
Out Go the Lights is an American indie pop/rock band from Orlando, Florida. The band was formed in 2010 by vocalist/guitarist Alex Clements and drummer Allen Clark while The Two were in the 10th grade. Later, they were joined by bassist Elliott Lane. Their manager, Sean Egan, often accompanies the band live, providing additional instrumentation (keyboards/percussion) and backing vocals.
Out Go the Lights has obtained a steady following in the Orlando music scene after the release of their demo EP Acceptance in September 2010, and the subsequent release of their 2011 EP, SUN, in December. The band has performed at various venues in Central Florida including a recent performance at the Orange You Glad Festival sharing the main stage with Deleted Scenes, Zambri, Hospitality, and Tennis.
History
Out Go the Lights began as the MusicAL bedroom project of two childhood friends, Alex Clements and Allen Clark. Mid-2009, the two realized their potential musically, Alex taking on duties as songwriter, guitarist and vocalist while Allen, after mastering drums on Rock Band, purchased a cheap drum set and began playing the instrument.
In 2010, the duo wrote and recorded a 5-song demo EP titled Acceptance and performed as a duo for the remainder of the year, while writing songs for the forthcoming EP, soon to be titled SUN. It was toward the end of the writing process for the new EP that the band was joined by bassist Elliott Lane. Lane provided his own bass lines to flesh out the songs and a fuller sound was achieved, enabling the recording process to begin. It was around this time that the band met and hired manager Sean Egan.
Recording began at the home studio of Grant Peyton (guitarist of Orlando power-violence group THROAT DUMP and electronic/hip-hop project GRANT). After the basic tracks were recorded at Grant's, overdubbing and re-recording began at the apartment of Sean Egan. A wide variety of INSTRUMENTS were used and many friends were brought in to assist with the multitude of layers required for the 6-song EP.
During the mixing process the band released two singles, "Pericles" and "Joy", via digital download on the band's Bandcamp, which received a positive response. The songs were subsequently remixed for the release of the EP on December 2, 2011. The EP was received by fans and the Orlando music scene favorably, with "Pericles" being listed at No. 65 on Rawkblog's "Best Of 2011" list. The band began playing shows in the Central Florida area with manager, Sean Egan, assisting with keyboards/percussion and backing vocals. They have performed at Backbooth, Will's Pub, Stardust Coffee and Video (which received favorable comments in Orlando Weekly's music column) and Tampa's Crowbar during the first half of 2012. They were also featured on the main stage outside Park Avenue CD's for the Orange You Glad Festival in Orlando, Florida.
