OpenDAM /ˈˈoʊpən ˈdæm/ , formerly called Wikipixel, is an awarded free and open-source digital asset management platform written in PHP 5 with the Symfony framework 1.4 and distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) version 3.

The standard release of OpenDAM, known as OpenDAM Core, contains basic features common to media content management software.

These include user account registration and maintenance, menu management, image and video files upload, RSS feeds, copyrights management and system administration.

The OpenDAM core installation can be deploy onto an existing enterprise content management system, e-commerce website and CRM platform.

Although OpenDAM offers a sophisticated programming interface for developers, no programming skills are required for installation and administration.

OpenDAM runs on any computing platform that supports both a web server capable of running PHP (including Apache2) and a MySQL database to store content and settings.

History

OpenDAM was originally developed and owned by Wikipixel, a French software company, created in 2011 and quickly noticed by the software industry

In June 2012, Wikipixel completed a 400,000 Euros financing round

In 2013, Wikipixel received a trophee from the international E-doc Awards.

OpenDAM is now used by international organizations such as Suez Environnement and charitable organizations such as The Salvation Army

The OpenDAM Core became an open source project in November 2013

Deployment options

Customers can deploy OpenDAM Core as a software as a service (SaaS) solution in the Wikipixel Cloud, as an on-premises solution behind their firewall, or in the public cloud.
