Olivier Robert-Murphy

Olivier Robert-Murphy is Global head of New Business at Universal Music Group, the world's leading music company. Married with three children, he is originally from Toulouse, South of France, but has now lived in London for a number of years.

Career

Early career

Olivier had his first taste of the music industry by financing his studies through chauffeuring music artists around Paris.

After serving as an officer in the French Air Force, he began at Procter & Gamble as a Key Account Manager. From there, he joined the entertainment industry at PolyGram Video France. For 5 years, he marketed and launched hundreds of audio visual products.

Through the merger of PolyGram and Universal, Olivier advanced to Vice President of Marketing at Universal Pictures International Video, which meant relocating to London.

Olivier joined Universal Music Group in 2001, where he launched the audio visual department. In addition Olivier was given the added responsibility of managing the Strategic Marketing Division, which includes traditional and non-traditional exploitation of the vast UMG repertoire. He transformed a physical-only business to one that fully exploits the digital revolution increasing digital turnover through both online and mobile channels.

Current

Olivier was promoted to head up the newly created Business Development International at Universal Music Group. He assumes responsibility for UMGI’s new business activities including strategic marketing partnerships, international research, new revenue streams, brand partnerships, premiums and the company’s media-buying through its partner.

Olivier is involved in many global business, technology and music conferences, where he takes part in presenting and panel discussions. Some of these events have included The Middle East Telco Summit, TMForum, and The PEVE Digital Conference.

Further Information

In 2010 Olivier took part in documentary "Londres, Sixieme Ville Francaise" (London, Sixth City of France) on France 5 which portrayed French Nationals living and working in London. The English capital has become the sixth French city by population with over 300,000 French people living there.

Olivier is a keen drummer and plays for a blues band in London. He actively participates in Taekwondo competitions and is an avid Skier and football (soccer) fan, both watching and playing.

Working in the music industry he has a broad taste in music although he cites David Bowie, Jackson Browne, The Buggles, Mink De Ville and Phil Collins amongst his favourites.

Olivier is of French/British nationality, the "Murphy" in his name coming from his Grandfather who was Irish, from Schull in West Cork, Ireland.
