Oakbank Primary School

Oakbank Primary School is a mixed school of Non Denominational religion in Perth, Scotland. The School opened in 1969 and has over 530 pupils. Its current Principal is Fiona Head. It stands in extensive grounds occupying a position on a hill overlooking the Glasgow Road, next to Perth High School. Oakbank Primary School is the largest primary school in Perth and Kinross and is the fourth school in Scotland to win all Eco Flags.

The school won their fourth Eco Flag in mid 2006. They were the fourth school in Scotland to get all four of the flags.

Inside are fourteen different classrooms, eight on the ground floor and six on the first floor. The school also has a spare classroom which used to be accompanied by P4, until the nursery was moved right outside the school building.

In the school's grounds there are two different playgrounds; one for the younger lot (P1-P3) and a slightly larger one for the older ones (P4-P7). In 2005 the larger playground got redone and is now made of tarmac rather than concrete. The school also has two large fields for the pupils to play in during the summer if they want. One of them is for playing football and the other is just to do anything but football.

Languages

When pupils at the school reach Primary 5, they used to learn either French or German as a second language depending in which class you were in. Recently though, teachers decided they no longer wanted to teach German with pupils, and have changed it to Spanish. French is at the moment still tought there.

The reason for changing from German to Spanish is due to Perth High School's Modern Languages department; which had recently hired to teachers to teach Spanish. Oakbank hopes for Perth High to continue teaching Spanish to their primary schools pupils from now on.
