NY Residential
NY Residential is a half-hour real estate TV program airing weekly on The New York PIX 11. The show is hosted by Cathy Hobbs, an Emmy-award winning journalist and Jeff Appel, a real estate industry expert and lecturer. They are joined by correspondent Leila Sbitani, formerly of Entertainment Tonight. It also features segments from real estate reporters in New York, including Christine Haughney from The NY Times and Jason Sheftell from The NY Daily News.
History
Created by Sparkway, a digital production company, the show first aired on July 15th 2008, and is seen every Sunday morning at 9 a.m. on the PIX 11. As of October 20, 2008, the show was picked up by WGN America and airs nationally on Saturday mornings as well.
Content
The show's segments spotlight several properties in New York City. Ranging from affordable apartments to luxury condos, the show features a walk through of the property and a Q&A with the broker by a field reporter. It also highlights the surrounding neighborhood, and features information on how to make it to the open house. The show also has segments with real estate tips, market trends, and updates on properties being developed and under construction.
Talent
Cathy Hobbs
Emmy award winning television personality Cathy Hobbs has nearly two decades of experience as an on-air television news correspondent. She has worked in some of the top television markets in the country and is currently in her 11th year as an on-air television reporter and anchor at WPIX-TV in New York City, where she has developed a strong fan base. Cathy has been nominated for nineteen Emmy awards, and is a five-time Emmy award winner. In 2003, she took one of the Emmy awards top honors, earning the coveted award for Outstanding General Assignment and Live Reporter for the entire New York City region.
Cathy is also an ASID Interior Designer and is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers and the International Interior Design Association, as well as an accredited home staging professional. Cathy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, cum laude, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The Marshall School of Business at The University of Southern California.
Always in search of design inspiration and unique finds, Cathy is also an experienced globetrotter, and has travelled to Cambodia, Thailand, Spain, Italy, France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Germany, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Hong Kong, Greece, Turkey and Egypt just to name a few. Cathy currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband. In addition to travelling, Cathy enjoys studying languages, painting and is an experienced equestrian.
Jeff Appel
Jeff’s passion for real estate began when he purchased and sold his first home. The thrill of the transaction had Jeff hooked, leading eventually to his owning and operating a full service real estate firm in Los Angeles. In 1997, Jeff moved to New York and quickly became one of the top Mortgage Brokers in the city.
Since 2004, Jeff has consistently been a nationally ranked top originator by the publishers of Mortgage Originator Magazine. In 2005, Jeff was named Senior V.P. of Preferred Empire Mortgage Company. In June of 2007, Jeff added the title of Director, New Development Financing to his accomplishments. His years in the New York market have brought him many accomplishments including being named 2006 Residential Mortgage Broker Man of the Year by the Mann Foundation. Jeff has been featured as the cover stories in the January 2008 Mann Report Residential by Mann Publications, March 2007 Development NY Residential and March 2006 Real Estate Executive. Today, Jeff regularly appears on Bloomberg Radio, Fox Business News and several other nationally syndicated business shows.
Jeff is currently a licensed New York Real Estate Instructor and holds Real Estate Broker’s Licenses in New York, Massachusetts and California. In 2005, Jeff (in partnership with the Real Estate Board of New York) launched the "real estate Master’s Series", a professional panel discussions featuring the leaders in the New York residential real estate industry. In addition, he regularly teaches Real Estate broker training and continuing education on realproperty finance for the Real Estate Board of New York, and other leading brokerage firms and continuing education programs.
Leila Sbitani
Leila Sbitani is a NY Residential correspondent who hosts Property Tours and other segments.
A highly experienced national television personality, Leila was formerly an on-air reporter for Entertainment Tonight, plus she was the television host of 48–Hour Wedding, Nice Package and Hi–Jinks. She has interviewed a wide array of celebrities from Mick Jagger to Britney Spears and is the perfect Tour Guide for NY Residential.
