• More than 200 candidates Wednesday rushed to register on the first day of nominations for next month's elections to the Election Committee which will pick the next chief executive. 1

• Local Catholic church leader Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun said Sunday the Catholic diocese would remain politically independent and that the seven Catholic representatives to be returned in next month's Election Committee subsector elections could freely decide on whom they would like to support as the next chief executive in March next year. 2
