Nova Era FC
Nova Era Futebol Clube, also as Nova Era Futebol Clube do Fogo (Fogo Creole/Djarfogu and ALIPEK: Nova Era) is a football (soccer) club that currently plays in the Fogo Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of São FIlipe in one subdivision in the west of the island and plays at Estádio 5 de Julho.
Its logo features a globe that is planet Earth and its acronyms in the middle part inside the ribbon and next to it four people.
History
The club competed in the Second Division and was competed as Tribo do Sol in 2008, later the club withdrew and merged into what would become Nova Era which means the new era, a new era of the club after a merger of two or three clubs.
Their first years were spent in the regional Second Division until they won their first silver championship title in 2012 and played their first season in the Premier Division. At the end of the season, they were relegated after finishing last.
For a few seasons, the club continued to compete in the Second Division. In the 2016-17 season, the club was one of the most successful to return to the Premier Division, they played in Group A and was a 2nd placed club of the group, on February 11, Nova Era defeated Brasilim 0-20 and it became the highest scoring match of any Second Division competitions in Cape Verde and any tiers, not just Fogo, but all of the country, it was the next 20 goal result in several seasons, it made Nova Era placed first for the rest of the first phase. Along with União de São Lourenço, they qualified into the final phase, Nova Era started first, on a match with Grito Povo on April 9, the original result was 3-1 as Grito Povo fielded an ineligible player, the association awarded Nova Era 3-0 and at the end of the final phase finished first with all of its 6 matches won totalling 18 points, a few rounds before the end of the season, the club got their Second Division championship, later the final match of the season was against União who failed to qualify for returning to the Premier Division, Nova Era was awarded 3-0 as that club did not appear.
Nova Era returned to compete for the second time at the Premier Division for the 2017-18 season after 7 years in the lowest division. A low to mid success was made at the start of the season. At the second round, Nova Era underwent a two match winning streak defeating the division's weakest clubs of ABC Patim and Atlético Mosteiros in the first two rounds. At the third round, Nova Era made a goal draw with Spartak d'Aguadinha and was placed third, two behind Vulcânicos and ahead of Valéncia, another win at the fourth round got their never-reached 2nd place behind Vulcânicos and ahead of Spartak, also two ahead of Fogo's other popular clubs of Académica do Fogo and Botafogo FC. At the fifth round, Nova Era suffered another Premier Division loss as they lost to the island's top three Botafogo 3-0, as they scored less than Spartak but conceded less, Nova Era remained second place. Their positions recently dropped to sixth at the 8th round and now has the least goals scored with five alongside ABC Patim, their last goal scored was a 1-0 win over Cutelinho. They had scored nothing for the past five weeks, especially in their recent matches which were two scoreless draws. ABC Patim's next goal scored now made Nova Era the least scored goals in the Premier Division.
Stadium
Spartak d'Aguadinha plays at Estádio 5 de Julho with a capacity of 1,000. The club also trains at the stadium. Other clubs playing at the stadium includes Académica do Fogo, Botafogo, Juventude, Vulcânicos and the least prominent club Atlântico. Clubs based in a city subdivision includes Spartak d'Aguadinha and Brasilim of Monte Vaca. Other clubs playing at the stadium but not based are ABC de Patim, União FC from São Lourenço and Valência from As Hortas.
