Nottingham Robin Hood Beer Festival
The Nottingham Robin Hood Beer Festival (until 2007 Nottingham Beer Festival along with a few temporary name changes) is an annual beer festival organised by the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). It provides visitors with a selection of cask ales, with 650 being available during the 2008 event. The festival is held in the second weekend of October, Thursday to Sunday afternoon, at Nottingham Castle a short walk from the city centre and Old Market Square.
As well as the beer, the festival offers cask ciders and perries, country wines and a wide variety of food and snacks. Entertainment, such as live music and morris dancing, is held in or near the bandstand.
Event History
The festival was sited from 1977 up to 2008 in the Victoria Leisure Centre a moderate walk from the city centre. Due to the event outgrowing the venue, and the venue itself facing closure, Nottingham Castle approached the local branch of CAMRA and offered its services. During its inaugural year the event rose from approximately 7,000 people to 15,000 people attending. Plans for 2009 are for that number to increase further.
