North State (cigarette)

North State (also known as Nortti) is a Finnish brand of cigarettes which was manufactured by "Suomen Tupakka". Today, the brand is owned and manufactured by British American Tobacco.

History

North State was founded in 1931 and is a cigarette which is equipped with a shorter filter compared to many other cigarette brands. The cigarette is mainly sold in Finland, but was also sold in Denmark, The Netherlands, [...] Germany, West Germany, Switzerland and the United States. Jokingly, the brand is usually called "Chauffeur tobacco".

In Finland, the market had three different variants of North State: Red Filter and Filterless Green In 2014 North State White was added to the collection, which uses an all-organic type of tobacco.

North State Green is no longer sold because the tar content excessed the 10 milligram legal limit that's imposed in the European Union.

Besides traditional cigarette packs, tin cans containing the cigarettes were also sold.

The amount of tar and nicotine in the Red Filter variant consists of 10 miligram and 0.8 miligram respectively.
