Noor Photo Agency
The Noor photo agency is an international photographic cooperative, headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It was founded in September 2007 by nine photographers and a managing director. All nine photographers were well established, award winning photojournalists. The original founders were Samantha Appleton, Jodi Bieber, Philip Blenkinsop, Pep Bonet, Jan Grarup, Stanley Greene, Claudia Hinterseer, Yuri Kozyrev, Kadir van Lohuizen and Francesco Zizola.
In 2008 Jodi Bieber left the agency. In the same year Jon Lowenstein joined the agency.
As a collective, the members of Noor share values and concerns and act in response. They accept the challenge of expressing these concerns in a language capable of renewing itself, and work always with respect to the human dignity of their subjects. Noor is aware of the major changes facing traditional media and is in favor of an increasing diffusion of new media; the agency represents the forefront of progressive documentary photography, meanwhile upholding the value and tradition of classic photo reportage.
With this vision in mind, the members of Noor as an agency produce both individual reportage stories and collective projects. They are as much journalists as activists; they believe that some things in the world simply need to be seen, and have united their individual visions and capabilities in Noor to facilitate this.
The agency provides images for both regional and international newsmagazines with high circulation, among which are Time (magazine), Newsweek Magazine, Fortune magazine, The New Yorker, GEO (magazine), Stern, Paris Match, and Days Japan.
