Nicholas Tracy

Nicholas Tracy (born 1944) is a Canadian naval historian who studies 18th century British naval history and Canadian naval history.

Early life and education

Tracy graduated from the University of Saskatchewan earning a B.A. with honours in history in 1966. In 1965, as an undergraduate at Saskatchewan, he served as an Acting Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy. He earned his Ph.D. in naval history at the University of Southampton in 1972.

Academic career

Tracy began his teaching career at Dalhousie University in 1977 and the was appointed at the University of New Brunswick from 1981 to 2007. He taught at St. Thomas University in 1982 and was associate professor of history and senior visiting fellow at the National University of Singapore in 1983-86. In 1993, he was Advanced Research Scholar at the U.S. Naval War College.
