Nicholas Bastidas

Nicholas Bastidas is a pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgeon practicing in New York, NY and New Hyde Park, NY affiliated with Northwell Health. He is an assistant professor of surgery at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. He holds leadership positions in many different plastic surgery and charity organizations:

1) He is the director of the Institute of Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery (www.ippcs.org).

2) He is also the President of SavingFaces (www.savingfaces.org), a 501(c)3 non profit dedicated to improving the lives of children with visible deformities.

Medical Education / Training Dr. Bastidas received his medical degree (MD) from NYU School of Medicine in 2005, with distinguished honors in cell biology research. He later went to receive his residency training at NYU in the coordinated Plastic Surgery program. After residency training, he completed an additional year of subspecialty training at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and is practicing at North Shore, LIJ and Lenox Hill Hospital.

Research/Grants and Publications Dr. Nicholas Bastidas has currently authored 30 papers in peer reviewed journals 3. He has presented his research at national and regional plastic surgery meetings. He is the Recipient of four research award grants to date, including a supplemental NIH grant for a tissue engineering research project.

Dr. Nicholas Bastidas is also a contributing author to Grabb and Smith's Plastic Surgery 7th EDition textbook, having written chapter 31: "Reconstruction of the Scalp, Calvarium, and Forehead."

Media He has been featured on local and regional television news for his work in vascular anomalies, congenital hand surgery (thumb reconstruction) as well as in Ear molding 4-18.

Charity work

Dr. Bastidas has participated in several mission trips with Smile Train and Operation smile, including trips to the Dominican Republic, Peru and Argentina. During these missions children and young adults received cleft lip and palate surgery.  In 2015, the 501c3 non-profit – savingfaces foundation (www.savingfaces.org) was founded.  The goal of the savingfaces foundation is to provide expert medical and surgical access for children with complex facial deformities within the United States.
