Ngai Wing Piew

Ngai Wing Biu is a fictional character from the TVB drama, The Drive of Life.

Personality

Wing Biu is ambitious, ruthless, clever but doesn’t have wisdom. Petty minded, biased, when successful, gives credit to oneself, while blame others when failed. Ungrateful, motivated by resentment and anger.

Background

After graduating from high school, Wing Piew joined the steel processing factory and put all efforts into displaying himself to climb upwards. He received compliments from Man Hang, making him feel proud and thought that he was important to Man Hang; he will be successful in future. The truth is, Man Hang was troubled that his son Zhen Pong doesn’t work seriously and therefore intentionally entrusts heavy responsibility to Wing Piew, hoping to encourage the drive in Zhen Pong.

Character Development

Due to Man Hang’s encouragement, Wing Piew goes all out for reward from Man Hang. First, during the fight for steel processing factory shareholders, Wing Piew sided with Man Hang and goes against Wong family. After Man Hang successfully won shares over steel processing factory, Wing Piew thought he would be heavily rewarded, but the repayment is far from what he expected. Due to this, bitterness grew in Wing Piew. Afterward, before 1997, Wah family invested in real estate and Wing Piew supported Man Hang and Zhen Pong fully, in the end he also did not received the reward he expected. Facing disappointment time and time again, Wing Piew took this to heart and bore a grudge against Wah family.

When Wing Piew was most frustrated, Man Hang’s daughter, Wah Ching Yu shows concern and encouragement as a friend to Wing Piew. Wing Piew misunderstand that Ching Yuk have feelings for him and pursues her. After several efforts, Wing Piew won Ching Yuk’s heart. Wing Piew truly loves Ching Yuk, but also used Ching Yuk to attack Wah family. Man Hang sensed Wing Piew harbors evil intentions and immediately put a stop to it. He told Wing Piew that he is not qualified to be the Wah family’s son-in-law. Wing Piew was dejected and decided to leave Wah family, resulting a deeper hatred against them.

After leaving Wah family, Wing Piew met dead ends and suddenly remember his uncle, an evil international businessman Ngai Tin Hang. At that time, Tin Hang’s business coincidentally was going against Wah automobile business. Therefore, Wing Piew gambled everything and became the devil’s disciple.

Wing Piew though that he could depend on his uncle-nephew relationship with Tin Hang and rose high above. However, Tin Hang feels that Wing Piew’s ability is not enough, not only does he doesn’t trust Wing Piew, he treated Wing Piew like a dog. This stirs up the rage and evil potential in Wing Piew. Wing Piew thinks that both Tin Hang and Man Hang destroyed his career, and determined to destroy them.

At one side, Wing Biu used Tin Hang’s influence to attack Wah family, on the other hand, he used Ching Yuk to curry favor from Man Hang. In the end, Wing Biu’s sinister plot prevails and obtained Man Hang’s trust, becoming Wah family’s son-in-law.

Yet, this is only Wing Biu’s first step. Back then, when he was discriminated by Man Hang, Wing Biu’s heart was full of resentment and vowed to return the humiliation, showing that it was Man Hang’s bad insight. Wing Biu loves Yu deeply, but his hungry ambitions were not content even after having Yuk. Instead, he plotted to swallow Wah’s family entire fortune. Due to Wing Biu’s manipulation, his younger brother Gai Keong fell into coma but he have no intentions of repenting. Wing Biu has caused the Wah family to fall into a dangerous position over and over again, splitting up the family.

At this time, Yuk becomes pregnant with Wing Biu’s baby. Wing Biu initially thought of giving up, but later found out it was Ching Yuk’s strategy to make him give up. Actually, Yuk knew of Wing Biu’s plot but did not expose him. She hoped that by having his baby, Wing Biu will turn back from evil. Unfortunately, nothing moves Wing Biu as he was obsessed with fame and fortune. He viewed Ching Yuk’s actions as betrayal and worsened, wanting to destroy everything by selling Wah family’s painstakingly built enterprise to other people. Ching Yuk, seeing that Wah family will be destroyed, hardened her heart and exposed Wing Biu’s criminal evidence.
