Pastor James Heard III
Church History
In March of 1989 Elder James Heard, Jr. was called to pastorship. Through a dream, God gave his helpmate Evangelist Christine Heard the name New Psalmist Church of God in Christ. COGIC
At this time during prayer and fasting, God blessed us with our first church home at 2128 Tudor Ave. In East St. Louis, Illinois. We worshipped there until 1991, then moved to 3500 Falling Springs Rd. in Cahokia, Illinois. Through this ministry, the presence of God saved, healed, filled and Delivered many souls. After 11 short years of pastoring, Pastor James Heard, Jr. was called home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2000.
The Lord blessed our ministry by sending Pastor Heard's son, Elder James Heard, III. Under the leadership of Pastor James Heard, III God has continued to bless this ministry through the gifts he has placed in his life. Operating heavily in the areas of word of knowledge and the gift of prophecy, God has used Pastor Heard to save and change many lives. During this time the Lord called Pastor Jacques Hughes to work with Pastor James Heard III as the assistant pastor of New Psalmist.
Being an astute businessman, in December 2001 Pastor Heard acquired a new church facility at 303 W. Fourth St. in Cahokia. The church was completely remodeled with most of the work being performed by the church members.
In August, 2005 our church was demolished by fire that destroyed two-thirds of our amenities. Yet, God is still blessing. We currently fellowship at 3921 Mississippi Ave. in Cahokia. Construction began on our future home address is 535 State Route 3, Cahokia, Illinois, in April 2007.
