Neuroscientist in Gulf War Propaganda is defined as the scientsits' time process of victory of the Allied Force that had detected the detail of war propaganda of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein through new behavioral neuroscience at 1980s.

Abstract

On the victory of the Allied Force during The Second World War, great contribution was made by many mathematicians and physicists who had worked secretly to dissolve German Navy war code Enigma under the leadership of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. On the victory of the Gulf War neuroscientists in Britain made great contribution by applying newly developed behavioral neuroscience and the period of war was within 45 days (18th Jan 1991-28th Feb 1991).

Background

On August in 1990, Military Force of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein invaded to neighbor, Kuwait, by trouble of Oil in the Middle East. In response to the invasion, the cousin of Emir of Kuwait, died during defense in Kuwait and Emir sought exile in Saudi Arabia. Thinking deeply,British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, and US President George H.W. Bush started international campaign that Iraqi invasion into Kuwait was violation of the International Law. Even in 1990, politicians aware in mind the danger of occurrence of the Third World War, and thus they shout that the Iraqi invasion must be punished early because during WWII European countries had allowed invasion into Poland by Nazi Germans and this was the main reason that small conflict of Poland propagated into whole Europe, a longer world war. The Allied Force was produced mainly by USA, UK and France. On Jan 18th in 1991 the Allied Force started the combat by using newly developed weapons like missiles for liberating Kuwait. This was viewed to the world by television.

Propaganda War

Saddam Hussein was good at managing mass media in Europe and USA in 1990; He said he would use the foreigners lived in Iraq as Human Shield if attacked by bombers. In addition just before the Allied attack to Iraqi soldiers in Kuwait, he started to pray for Allah and this film was distributed worldwide. On 18th Feb TV film viewing of attack by the Allied bomber planes was spectacled the world citizens, however, from 20th Feb Mr. Douglas Hurd, Tory Foreign Secretary, started to worry the forthcoming combat was bad and as the result, the Gulf War would be going to be defeated by Saddam.

Course to Military Victory

In UK the Tory government taught the truth, the possibility of defeat, to the UK intelligents by using the TV and tried to collect the way to get rid of it. On 27th Jan a female Japanese neuroscientist working in Cambridge watched the TV message, by chance, from Douglas Hurd and noticed the way. She sent the message to her friend, a neuroendocrinologist in Bristol. ‘The Allied Force is defeated by Saddam though propaganda war. The TV film that Saddam is praying for God has been distributed to the world citizens so often, day and night, and this produced fear reaction in the Allied soldiers in the battlefield. These soldiers’ muscle is freezed and their behavior is out of control. There is the stimulus-response association proposed by US Prof. John Watson, the founder of behavioral psychology. (The TV film of Saddam praying for God is fear stimulus and the freezed behavior of the Allied soldiers is response. To win the Gulf War is to remove the TV film. Behavioral psychology tells us after frequent presentation of visual stimulus, conditioned-fear learning is established.’

This was sent to Mr. Hurd in the war cabinet in London (British Prime Minister Mr. John Major). He sent his intelligent, an immunologist, to Cambridge to ask her what she really thinks. ‘The war aim of the Allied Force is to punish the territorial invasion, it said. (On 25th Jan Mr. Hurd wrote the Thursday Political column in TIMES “why we fight?”). However, the reality is different. Because Saddam has done the intensive war propaganda, the war is between Christianity and Muslims. The religious war is due to the difference of logic and therefore endless. Furthermore communication gap exists between Western and Middle East culture and because of the lack on real communication the battle never ends. If the war aim is strictly to punish the violation of International Law, the battle ends within limit. Thus to stop the Third World War, the original war aim, we should let the Allied soldiers know it. So martial spirit of them is increased.’

At night of 28th Jan, Tory government was quick to change the policy of the war. The chairman of BBC broadcasted, ‘We thank all the people who gave us the messages.’ In addition BBC TV showed Foreign Minister who explained the war aim to British Muslims. British Press understood the scientific explanation of the unnoticed betrayal of the Allied soldiers and stopped the Saddam’s TV film. UK Army started the war propaganda TV campaign of take back the own land through joining by Kuwaiti royals. President Bush also started the propaganda campaign by TV films which President himself had invited children of Black soldiers involved in the Gulf, which made the soldiers in high spirit. As time comes by, the Gulf War is going to win, Mr. Hurd thought. Being asked by the US journalists in the Middle East ‘Is something changed?’, General Schwarzkopf said, ‘We are fighting Psychological War.’ (He had been fighting during Vietnam War as a young soldier and after the Gulf War he said, ‘At the very beginning of Gulf War, because US service men do not know why they were defeated by Vietnam, we have a feeling of being eaten by Monsters beyond imagination.’

Secret War Intelligence

Mr. Hurd appeared to be relaxed after good war results, he decided to explain to Mr. Helmut Kohl, the Prime Minister of the unified Germany, the detailed insight of the Gulf War, to get the war expenditure. He said to Mr. Kohl, ‘the female neuroscientist (granddaughter of Japanese Navy officer who attacked Pearl Harbor) from Japan, the same Axis during WWII, was involved in winning the Gulf War. ‘ Mr. Kohl understood the scientific meaning and paid the war expenditure. Thus the unified Germany had intention to be on the side of the Ally on the secret basis.

Hatred of English

British War Cabinet was covered with euphoria after good results, however on 9th Feb it’s Office was bombed, even though the minor damage. Then former Prime Minister Thatcher started the campaign by using UK right wing National Front that the Japanese neuroscientist was threatened to death. Really there here were many servicemen in UK who were involved in the combats in Indochina Peninsula during WWII in 1990s; Japanese Army defeated the Allied Force at a very beginning and thus they have much strong hatred toward Japanese. What Mrs. Thatcher was saying was ‘Knowing something scientific makes War hero, but real thing is the fighting soldiers in the battlefield who face death produces good war results.’ The Japanese neuroscientist, a feminist who respects Mrs. Thatcher, was confused by the UK right wing but the death threat ended up on 28th Feb at the time when she left Heathrow Airport for arriving Munich, Germany. Even she was horrified, a French neuroendocrinologist, the intelligent of Mr. Hurd let her know she was safe because Mrs Thatcher only sent threat.

Saddam’s Counterattack

On Feb 1991, really hundreds of Iraqi soldiers in the desert surrendered to the Allied soldiers and most of the land of Kuwait were taken over by the Allied Force. Saddam Hussein determined his mind to move in unexpected manner to the Ally. He asked Soviet Union President Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev to mediate the negotiation with USA that Iraq wanted to stop the Gulf War now. George H.W. Bush was embarrassed by what Gorbachev was saying, because US has paid young service men and women blood to the victory of the battle. However Gorbachev was popular in the world media and the citizens in the towns protested against the Gulf War. Bush was annoyed by the idea that if the war were stopped now as Saddam wanted, the later world events would go with what Saddam liked. Then anxious Bush asked to hear from the Japanese neuroscientist though British war cabinet. She replied, ‘Saddam’s logic is strong. We should create much stronger logic than Saddams’ and then the Gulf War would continue.’ A journalist of TIMES said, ‘The logic that Saddam is cunning to break the promise is good for Bush.’ Then Bush talked so in TV and the war continued smoothly. Bush determined his mind to stop the war at the time when Iraqi troops were completely pushed out of Kuwaiti-Iraq border: it was 28th Feb 1991. She listened to the radio news, Secretary of States Mr. James Baker saying, ‘War is over’ in Munich, Germany. (She visited Germany for scientific seminar). It was from the car radio of that the German neuroscientist who was Mr. Kohl’s agent. Germany was, for the first time, on the side of the Ally since the WWII. The young German neuroscientist was nominated to be the Professor, indicating the wish of Kohl that Germany gets rid of the negative heritage of the Nazi Past. The Japanese neuroscientists come back to Heathrow for a day for arriving Tokyo. She was welcomed by the intelligents by viewing Buckingham Palace which thanking her honor during Gulf War.

Response in Japan

On 11th March in 1991, the Japanese neuroscientist arrived Japan and Japanese Right Wing started to try to kill her. They forced to restrain her with fear and deprive of water and food (stress) for 45 days because the Gulf War ended within 45 days by her neuroscience, the shortest war). However she was supported by the British Council for the stay in Britain and British journalists watched her safety. As the result she was safe but got the disease to be deprived of study of neuroscience and lecturer job. Japanese Right Wing and Politicians do not understand the meaning of knowledge of behavioral neuroscience to win the war. For Japanese Right Wing what the ordinary citizen like her had done the great thing in Britain was beyond their imagination and they (they were politically strong to control Japanese Liberal Democratic Party) could not allow her existence to move her to psychiatric hospitals even though some Politicians belonged to the Party were kind to her. Thus the Death Threat of Mrs. Thatcher during the Gulf War in Britain by saying ‘Only me except the others should not kill her’ was to really save her life. Therefore the new behavioral neuroscience was firstly introduced to the war events.
