Nethaji sports club
Nethaji Sports Club worked to see its cherished dream come true. Nethaji Club affiliated with the then Madras Football Association.
On 8 April 1946 a few dynamic and self motivated youngsters joined hands to form a football club in the Pachaiappa’s High School grounds in Esplanade. The club was named after the great hero of the Indian nation Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Very soon Nethaji Sports Club worked to see its cherished dream come true. Nethaji Club affiliated with the then Madras Football Association. It reached the first division in the year 1949. This was indeed a remarkable achievement by any standards for a club which was just three years old and had no financial or institutional backing.
Pride Of the Club
Mr. K. Sankar – A member and a FIFA Asst. Referee – officiated in the 2002 Korea – Japan World Cup – First Indian ever to be appointed in the World Cup.
Mr. K.S. Raju – A product of Nethaji Club represented India in international matches.
Social Commitment
The club works to bring out stars from the poor masses. The process involves identifying the potential players from the economically weaker sections; providing the training, diet and Bata. There are countless players NSC has produced who have climbed the ladder of success and have got the break of their life. The result has been that the team has competed in the top league for six decades.
Members of Nethaji Club joined hands together and descended upon the village of Uyyalikuppam (Near Kalpakkam) going all out to give a helping hand to rehabilitate those who were affected by the tsunami.
Highlights
- Took part in an Invitation Tournament organized at Colombo.
- Participated in a record number of Football Tournaments in the country.
- Conducted two invitation tournaments at Chennai in memory of two of its members – Mr. P. Namasivayam & Mr. P.V. Chellappa.
- NSC celebrated four Anniversaries with illustrious sports person presiding over them.

Committee
Mr. A. Ghulam Hussain a versatile person with a world of knowledge in various fields, is Vice President of the club. He has experience ranging from Tour Operations to Satellite Technology, Information Technology to Satellite Television Channel to name a few. A multi linguist, he has traveled around the world and brings in rich experience to the Club. He obtained many players from foreign countries and improved all the players to enhance the club.
