Nepalese Youth In American Literature
Nepalese-American writer Rajan Thapaliya has become a role model to other Nepalese-Americans who wish to succeed as authors. Rajan Thapaliya is a 27-year old Nepali youth who has already published a dozen books in renowned publications. Most of his stories focus on themes related to philosophy and personal development, in hopes of influencing others. He is studying podiatry in New York and funding his studies with his stories and book writing.
In April 2015, a nightmare earthquake devastated Nepal. Thapaliya donated $2,000 to disaster relief efforts in the country, especially in the Dhading and the Gorkha District where he was born. He wants to help improve society and peoples’ lives through positive thoughts and actions. Spreading positive thoughts to the world is his inspiration for becoming a writer.
Growing up, Thapaliya never imagined that one day he would be a published writer. In college, on a whim he searched publishers on Google and sent his manuscript Think About It to many. Just a few hours later he got a reply from American Book House expressing enthusiasm about the story. With the publication of Think About It, Thapaliya achieved both financial success and fame, and getting published made Thapaliya so excited and proud that it gave him the encouragement to continue writing books. For Thapaliya, book writing is a source of inspiration to do something in life, not just a handy way to pay medical school tuition.
Thapaliya was born in Tripureshwor, Dhading; he relocated to New York City when he finished middle school in Nepal, at a SLC school. This school is a ten-class level of education. Thapaliya finished high school from Liberty High School and went on to study at Mandle College in Manhattan. He completed his biology and premed from Pace University, as well as completing a Master’s in creative writing. Now he is thriving as a podiatry student. He is a proud member of the Medical Author Association.
Thapaliya says, “If you do well in any field, you can achieve name and fame. It’s not a big deal. Especially since America is the capital of book publishing. One never knows who will become a millionaire, so keep trying and you may just become one yourself one day.”
Within three years of his first publication, Thapaliya has gone one to publish dozens of books. In 2013, published life is not easy. It can be difficult to get good reviews and appreciation from readers. Thapaliya encountered some discouragement, but then American Book House nominated his book for the Nobel Literature Prize in 2015. After that, Thapaliya got extra energy for writing. Other publishers also began to express interest in his work. Star books, Public America, Create Space, and Lulu press have now all published Thapaliya’s books. Thapaliya is writer of Think About It, Simple Rules, Turning Point, Life is not Easy, Sweet Speeches, Secrete Milliners, and the Rejoice series. Recently he published book two of the Rejoice series.
His books are available at Barnes & Noble, eBay, Amazon, and many other stores. His publishing companies also distribute in Europe, Africa, and India.
His books are available at top university libraries in the USA. Thapaliya is especially proud that Professor Dr. Gary Paul writes about him, saying that “Rejoice is a great philosophy for those who believe in God.”
In the National University of Korea, Professor Chun Chang Kang says, “Rejoice is a new discovery of a hidden part of our life. Author Thapaliya is getting so many good feedbacks. He is happy and excited about next part of the series.”
A Columbia University student named Paula had lost her family in a car accident. She said of the book, “I felt true spirit from the inside of my heart.” Thapaliya stated that at that moment, he felt proud to be an author.
The Rejoice series is all about life, human spirit, and love. It’s all about pleasure of the soul. A hundred and twenty-two pages of poetry, the series is getting a good response from readers, Thapaliya says. It is even receiving success in Argentina.
He says, “I have only one purpose in the life: I want to introduce Nepal to the rest of the world through my books. My Rejoice series all about life, soul, love, spirit, and positive energy.”
Thapaliya believes just because you wear traditional clothes and eat authentic Nepalese food doesn’t mean you are a true Nepali. A true Nepali is involves having a beautiful Nepali heart. “When we are abroad, we still love Nepal. We love to introduce ourselves as Nepali. Our identity is Nepali. Whatever country you are a citizen of doesn’t matter if you are born in Nepal, because you are eternally a son of Nepal. And if you are Nepali, you have great responsibility to take care of your home land. Because we Nepali respect our home land as a mother.”
Thapaliya plans to earn the Genesee Book world record as the world’s longest poetry series with Rejoice. The series is now ten parts. Two parts are already published but Thapaliya wants to publish and release the other eight on the same day. If the Genesee Book Committee accepts his proposal, he will be world record holder of the longest poetry series of the world.
Thapaliya is hugely impressed and inspired by Nobel Prize winner author Alice Munro. Thapaliya is going to continue his writing career as well as his field of study. He is soon to publish 100% Life, which is all about the promised in the life. He has come to believe, based on research, that those who promise more in life get more success.
