Neighborhood Parks Council

The Neighborhood Parks Council is a non-profit organization in San Francisco. NPC supports the development of localized community groups interested in the stewardship and improvement of neighborhood parks. In many instances the Council acts at as a guide to community groups who aim to generate community support and raise the funds for park improvements. This type of works not only involves community groups but also the SF Recreation and Parks Department, SF Redevelopment Agency, SF Public Utilities Commission, SF Planning Department, landscape architecture firms, and other organizations interested in the health, safety, and quality of life for San Francisco residents.

Because parks tend to be the crux of public life in urban areas, the effort to improve these greenspaces involve not only environmental but social and economic justice issues.

As an advocacy group the Neighborhood Parks Council encourages open space policies and land use practices that benefit the overall physical, phsychlogical, and economic well being of San Francisco residents.

The Neighborhood Parks Council utilizes ParkScan technology, an internet-based system which directs reports generated online by community members to the SF Recreation and Parks Department.

The Council is also involved in the Blue Greenway trail which runs along the southeastern waterfront of the city.
