Career

Nathaniel found his passion for music starting at the early age of fourteen, in West Coat hip-hop, He then graduated to Trance music, Drum & Bass, Metal, Hardcore Rock, Electro House, Dubstep and Trap Music. As an aviation technician in the Navy Nathaniel traveled the world learning new rhythms, sounds and skills, until he landed in the big city of Portland, Oregon. There he branded himself as Nathaniel Knows, started heavily producing music and weekly events packing 500+ people every Wednesday.

Controversy

In June of 2013, Knows found himself at the center of some controversy after he posted racist imagery while promoting for his Wednesday night club night. In the image, that was posted to Facebook and Twitter, Knows superimposed his own head over that of President Barack Obama on an image that originated on right wing message boards. In the image, President Obama was pictured on a "food stamp" featuring images of fried chicken, malt liquor, watermelon, a chicken and waffles logo of unknown origin, and "lil sambo" -style image of a black man dating from the early 20th Century. After immediate backlash on Facebook, where the image was originally posted, Knows defended himself on Twitter stating that he himself “grew up” on food stamps, citing this unverified fact as justification for his using racist imagery to promote an electronic music club night. On June 13, the venue hosting the night where Knows was a DJ severed ties with Knows.<ref name=WWeek, 6/13>http://www.wweek.com/portland/article-20903-scoop_gossip_possibl.html
