Nacho Durán

Nacho Durán is a multimedia artist and creator of the first videoblog made in South America (Sao Paulo, Brazil) from June 2003 , a diary composed by soundless loop videos from a photo sequence made with a portable webcam.

Biography

Nacho Durán was born in Oviedo, Spain in 1979 and he lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 2001. He`s graduated as Multimedia Designer and works as designer, programmer, VJ and as a teacher in Academia Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo .

As a VJ he performed individually or with the collectives VisualRadio , Coletivo Virtual , TeleKommando and Showskills in clubs and festivals: T.E.M.P., Skol Beats, Nokia Trends, Eletrônika, Motomix, FILE Hipersônica , VJbr , Contrabando, Dezcalabro, in Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Portugal.

He also participates in lectures and workshops about VJing and multimedia production for Internet and mobile phones.

Visual-log

Derived from Feitoamouse Videoblog, the application Visual-Log was first showed at FILE Hipersônica 2004 with the project ‘V-log + AudioCidade’ with Célio Dutra.

randoX

randoX is an interface for PC and Mac OS for audiovisual projections developed since 2004 by Nacho Durán, with Macromedia Director and Lingo language. RandoX works with images (jpeg and gif), audio (wav and mp3), video (mov and mp4, texts (txt) and fonts. It`s part of the research group Corposcópio about circular dances, VJing and wireless technologies, directed by new media researcher and artist Lúcia Leão.

Main works

  • 2007 4mobiles – Recordings made with a mobile phone of a travel to the Peruvian region of Madre de Dios, showing the influences of colonization, globalization and climate change on natives. The authentic images and sounds were deconstructed and synchronized quadriphonically to be played by four mobile phones at the same time.

It was first shown as an video-installation on the 2º Festival Internacional de Arte em Mídias Móveis - arte.mov - in Belo Horizonte (Brazil) and as a video on the 21ª Mostra do Audiovisual Paulista in Sao Paulo (Brazil).

  • 2005-2007 Desconstruindo Manu Chao, um artista marginal na era digital – 3D work in DVD-ROM made in collaboration with Lúcia Leão and Mariana Rillo. The work was part of the exhibition ‘Bits Flexíveis’ in the Museu da Imagem e do Som de São Paulo (2005) and in the Festival Internacional de Linguagem Eletrônica, 2007 in Sao Paulo and 2008 in Rio de Janeiro.
  • 2006-2007 Pares (des)conexos - CD-ROM application made in collaboration with Mariana Rillo. It was part of the exhibition of Festival Internacional de Linguagem Eletrônica in Sao Paulo (2006) and in Rio de Janeiro (2007) .
  • 2006 Corposcópio – interactive and collaborative multimedia performance with Lucia Leão , Fernando Velázquez , Rodrigo Gontijo, Dudu Tsuda, Leonora Fink, Giselle Fink, Andrea Leoncini and Andrea Soares.
  • 2005 Vedute di San Paolo Moderna – audiovisual performance with the collective TeleKommando Scherz inside the festival FILE Hipersônica 2005 .
  • 2003-2005 A cidade utópica - CD-ROM application made with Fernando Velázquez , Clício Barroso, Alexandre Braso e Leonora Fink. It was part of the exhibitions ‘450 anos da cidade de São Paulo’ (450 years of the city of Sao Paulo) in Sao Paulo City Hall (2004), Festival Internacional de Linguagem Eletrônica in Sao Paulo (2005) and in Rio de Janeiro (2006).
  • 2003-2005 Pixzle, uma fábrica de quebra-cabeças digital – website made with Leonora Fink. It was part of the exhibition Festival Internacional de Linguagem Eletrônica in Sao Paulo (2005) and in Rio de Janeiro (2006) .
  • 2005 Mosaicópolis – website e urban intervention, coordinated by Mário Ramiro, Eduardo Kac and Luiz Duva. It was showed during the festival Motomix 2005 in Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
  • 2005 Autos-falantes – Sound urban intervention, coordinated by Mário Ramiro, Eduardo Kac, Luiz Duva and Alex Kid . It was showed in the streets of Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
  • 2004 DesEu, um auto-retrato digital - CD-ROM application made in collaboration with Mariana Rillo. It was part of the exhibition Festival Internacional de Linguagem Eletrônica in Sao Paulo (2004) .

Awards

  • 2007 Honorable Mention at 7th edition of Brazilian Prize 'Prêmio Sergio Motta de Arte e Tecnologia' with the project 'Partidas-Chegadas', developed in collaboration with Marcus Bastos.
