N. Mandal

Naresh Kumar Mandal (born 13 April 1986), professionally known as N. Mandal, is an Indian film editor, director, and producer associated with regional and independent cinema in India.

He is the founder and director of the Sincine Film Festival, an independent platform dedicated to regional, short, and independent cinema.

His contributions to Maithili-language cinema and documentary filmmaking have been documented in books and media articles on the history of Maithili cinema.

Mandal began his career as a film editor and later transitioned into directing. He is a self-taught filmmaker who developed his skills through practical experience rather than formal film education.

Career

Mandal started working in post-production for Indian television serials in the late 2000s before directing short films, documentaries, and regional language projects.

His documentary Lok Astha Ke Mahaparv Chhath (2018) explores the cultural and social dimensions of the Chhath festival.

His short films Dark Night (2019) and Mukti Abhishap Se (2019) were screened at independent film festivals in India.

In 2019, his short film NASA: The Error was announced for streaming on the digital platform Shivaay Originals.

N. Mandal participated in the "Symposium on Maithili Cinema and Literature" organized by the Sahitya Akademi in Bihar on 30 September 2023. N. Mandal was listed as a speaker at the Sahitya Akademi event for his presentation titled “Dialogues drawn from different dialects used in Maithili cinema”.
