Mustafa Kamil (academic)

Mustafā Kāmil was born in Lucknow,India, as Mustafa Kamil Usmani. He was selected by the then Aga Khan III after a global search to be private tutor to Prince Karim (now Aga Khan IV, the current Hazar Imam of the largest sect of Nizari Ismailis) and Prince Sadruddin, Prince Karim's peer in age and uncle.

Mustafa Kamil was a rising star at Aligarh Muslim University when he was engaged by the then Aga Khan, (Aga Khan III) to tutor his chosen successor and grandson.

In later life, he married Janis Burns, taught history at the University of Hawaii and then retired to New England, living in New Britain, Connecticut. His son, Dr. Tarik Kamil, teaches history in Ohio.
