Production

Origins

In 2010, Kevin Tancharoen directed a short, low-budget, short film titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which premiered online and was critically praised. Tacharoen made the film as motivation for Warner Bros. to produce a newer film. After the short film premiered online, Tancharoen signed on with Warner Bros. to direct a short, 2011 web series based off the short film.

Production with Warner Bros.

In Fall 2011, it was reported by Comingsoon.net and other sources that Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema had Tancharoen signed on as the Director of a newer, Theatrical film. It has also been confirmed that Oren Uziel, who wrote the screenplay for Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, has signed on to write the film. However, Tancharoen has kept the Cast and Production Crew a secret in a recent interview. Warner Bros. plans to release the film in 2013 and hope the next installment of the Video Game series will be released during the film's theatrical run or it's Home Media Release.
