Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, Boston
Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries' mission is to provide exemplary job training and related services to help individuals with disabilities and other barriers to self-sufficiency to achieve independence and dignity through work. Not charity, but a chance.
Goodwill was founded in Boston's South End in 1895 to provide impoverished immigrants with jobs and furnish the community with affordable goods. It was the first in what is now a worldwide network of 200 independent affiliates.
Each year, Goodwill delivers business-focused, results-oriented training and career services that provide winning solutions for job seekers and job providers alike. Thousands of individuals participate in training programs to hone their skills for the workplace, and hundreds of businesses turn to Goodwill for skilled, reliable workers and outsourced services. Goodwill ensures that job candidates coming from Goodwill are trained, qualified, and ready for work.
Job Skills and Job Readiness Training
Goodwill offers a wide range of job training programs for individuals facing barriers to employment. Some participants with limited work history, educational attainment, and/or English language skills complete a work-readiness program as the first step toward a job in customer service, food service, retail/warehouse/merchandise processing, housekeeping and maintenance, office administration, and other fields.
Others who have more skills and work experience may choose to enter a skills-training program that prepares them to succeed in a specific industry, such as human services. Individuals with disabilities who require structured support to work are typically trained and work at one of Goodwill's social enterprise businesses (retail, food service, housekeeping and maintenance, or light assembly) and, over time, they transition to work in the community.
Boston Career Link Career Center
Boston Career Link, the one-stop career center operated by Goodwill at its Boston headquarters, offers universal access to a broad range of career counseling services, career resources, workshops, job fairs and special programs to connect job seekers with employers. Some come to the career center job-ready while others may need more support and assistance. Job seekers learn AbOUT current openings, receive assistance with their job search, learn job search techniques, and receive instruction on how to apply for a job online. Dozens of employers come to Boston Career Link throughout the year for weekly on-site recruitment sessions to conduct on-the-spot InterViews with qualified, pre-screened job seekers.
