Montagna di Marzo

The Barony of Montagna di Marzo is a Sicilian title of Maltese nobility considered as Foreign titles. It was created for the d'Aidone family and by marriage, Matteo Trigona was created via "Martiali Nomine" 28th April 1522, Barone di Montagna di Marzo. The descendants of his wife and his succeeded The Title in Sicily till it became extinct. Matteo Trigona's first wife descendants succeeded in the 18th century and also held the Sicilian title of Baron of Budunetto. Succession to the Sceberras Testaferrata family, who are also Barons of Castel Cicciano in Malta and Italy succeeded to the title and male heirs still hold the title today. Late 2007, Ronald Frederick (Sceberras-)Trigona held the title and was succeeded by his cousin Dr Alexander Sceberras Trigona dei Baroni di Castel Cicciano MA.(Oxon) formerly Foreign Minister of Malta. The Baron is married to Joanna Borg and have two daughters.

The title was inherited by Gerolama Trigona who in 1792, married Antonio Sceberras Testaferrata, (1756-1843), the thirteenth Baron of Castel Cicciano Barone di Montagna di Marzo. His descendants also by marriage inherited The Ancient Maltese title of Djar il-Bniet e Buquana, although the direct line had died out in the early 1980s and was succeeded by the next of kin in the male line of the Sceberras-Trigona family.
