Mona's Dream
__NOTOC__ Mona's Dream is an upcoming Jack Lenz film AbOUT the martyrdom of a young Iranian Bahá'í youth named Mona Mahmudnizhad. It chronicles the moments that led to her death in Shiraz, Iran in June 18, 1983. Together with nine other Bahá'í women, Mona was arrested, sentenced to death by hanging.
Mona was 16 years old when she was arrested in the Iranian city of Shiraz along with scores of other Baha'is. The Islamic Republic of Iran, under the leadership of Ayatollah Khomeini, had set out to rid their country and their revolution of the Bahá'í Community, the largest religious minority in Iran.
The film chronicles the courage and bravery of Mona, her father and her companions.
The names of the nine other Bahá'í women who were killed for their beliefs were: Shahin (Shirin) Dalvand, Izzat Ishraqi (Janami), Ruya Ishraqi, Zarrin Muqimi-Abyanih, Mahshid Nirumand, Simin Sabiri, Tahirih Siyavushi, Akhtar Thabit, and Nusrat Yalda'i
In September 2007 the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center published a case study on the subject.
Film's progress
Pre-production started in May 2008 and is set to release March 2009.
