Mohammad Foyez Ullah

Mohammad Foyez Ullah (; born 1 January, 1967) is a Bangladeshi architect known for his involvement in commercial and institutional projects in Bangladesh. He is the founder and principal architect of Volumezero Limited and co-founder of Vistaara Architects.

Early life and education

Ullah was born in Dhaka, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He completed both his Bachelor of Architecture (1993) and Master of Architecture (1997) degrees from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He subsequently joined BUET as an assistant professor in the Department of Architecture, serving from 1994 to 1998.

Career

In 1994, Ullah co-founded Vistaara Architects. In 2008, he established Volumezero Limited, a Dhaka-based architectural practice. His early works include commercial and hospitality developments in Dhaka, such as Bashundhara City, The Westin Dhaka, and Grameenphone Corporate Headquarters (GP House).

Since the late 2000s, his firm has completed a number of large projects, including the Cox’s Bazar Railway Station and the Bashundhara Sports Complex.

Some of his works have received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, including Simpletree Anarkali, Shahjalal Islami Bank Headquarters, and Simpletree Lighthouse.

Ullah has also been involved in professional committees, including the editorial committee for the Fire Safety and Protection section of the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC).

Awards

  • Seven National Board of Revenue (NBR) Awards to be listed as the highest tax-paying architect in Bangladesh from 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
  • Bangladesh Television National TV Debate Champion, represented Suhrawardy Hall Debate Team, BUET, 1990.
  • Ahsanur Rahman Gold Medal for the Masters of Architecture, from BUET in 1997.
  • IAB Design Award for design excellence in Multi-Family Housing,1998.
  • Citation Award-winning entry, organized by IAB and PICL Authority in 1998.
  • Berger Excellence in Architecture Award for designing Peoples Insurance Bhaban, 2007.
  • Global Brand Excellence Award, 2007.
  • Honourable Mention for Designing Liberation War Museum, Dhaka, November 2009.
  • Holcim Green Built Award for designing Grameenphone Corporate Headquarters (GPHouse), 2010.

Personal life

After graduation in 1993, he married Morsheda Nasmeen, who formerly worked for BRAC until 1995 and later joined and co-founded the same enterprises as Foyez.
