MMO of the Year

The MMO of the Year is an annual award for massively multiplayer online games (MMOs). Its aim is to recognize the most innovative and most popular MMOs and thus provide a platform that would benefit the perception of the genre. It is the biggest honor for MMO games as measured by the number of participants In the Audience voting.

Competition structure

The award is split into two individual competitions, the jury voting and the audience voting. The jurors choose between the games that have been nominated by the award organizers, media partners or other contributors prior to the voting phase. Only titles that have been released to the public in the preceding year are considered for a nomination. Participants in the audience voting can choose whatever game they like best without regard to its release date. Due to its global spread it is an online-only event without a physical award ceremony.

History

The MMO of the Year dates back as early as 2005. Initially being focused on the smaller genre subset of Browser MMOs and limited to Germany only it is now an international contest providing localized websites for English, Spanish, Portuguese and German speaking audiences.
