MMA-Japan
MMA-Japan aka MMA-Japan.com is a mixed martial arts blog that covers news and events from the combat sports worlds in Japan and mainland Asia.
Overview
MMA-Japan is an independent mixed martial arts blog that covers the latest news, events, and randomness to come from Japan and mainland Asia.
MMA-Japan has been featured by notable websites such as Sherdog.com, USA Today, MMAJunkie, MMAWeekly, ESPN.com, and several other mixed martial arts websites throughout the world.
MMA-Japan is run by Michael Hackler. Writers include Jacob Millis on a full-time basis and Kris Hartrum and Gary LaPlante on a part time basis.
Very well connected to many insiders in Japanese mixed martial arts, MMA-Japan has been known to confirm rumors from within the Japanese mixed martial arts realm. In addition, MMA-Japan was the first website to break the news of OneFC and the introduction of PrideFC style rules. These two combined have made them a very reliable source for information from Japan and Asia.
History
MMA-Japan started in September of 2010 as a blog dedicated to covering smaller promotions from all over the world. Following a period of growth that resulted in huge traffic increases, MMA-Japan began to focus strictly on Japanese MMA. In January of 2011, MMA-Japan joined the MiddleEasy network, a network of websites that included MiddleEasy.com, LiverKick.com, DSTRYSG.com, and FighterXFashion.com. During their time with the network, MMA-Japan continually grew month by month.
During the Tohoku earthquake of 2011, also known as the Great East Earthquake of Japan, MMA-Japan was the first to report many event cancellations to the USA MMA media and was seen as a primary source of information for combat sports in Japan during this time. A number of websites quoted MMA-Japan during this time due to their prompt reporting.
As of today, MMA-Japan continues growing. Leaving the MiddleEasy network at the beginning of 2012 had no impact on the website as they continue to grow by double digit figures every month.
