Mike Dieterich

Mike Dieterich (born April 7, 1982) is an American author, speaker, explorer, environmental scientist and entrepreneur who has been called upon as an expert on sustainable development for the United States Congress, the United Nations Climate Action Forum and has led conversations at the Georgetown and Carnegie Mellon universities and a number of private enterprises.
Since 2016, he has been president of RISE Industries.
Early life
Dieterich was born on April 7, 1982 in Pennsylvania, United States. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, and is currently an Eagle Scout.
Education and early career
Dieterich studied Environmental Science at Plattsburgh University and graduated with a B.S, in Environmental Science and a minor in Biology. In 2001 he traveled to Cueva de Villa Luz in Mexico with Kathleen H. Lavoie to study for a case study on the variability in troglomorphic adaptations of the Mexican cavefish, which was presented at the National Speleological Societies Convention in 2004.
In 2002, Dieterich studied at the University of Queensland, Australia, and conducted research on the Great Barrier Reef and in Lamington National Park. In 2003, he started a National Science Foundation Fellowship with the Lake Champlain Research Institute; from this he published "Indirect Effects of Forest Management on Riparian Zone Characteristics in the Adirondack Uplands of New York".
In January 2007 he founded Renew and Sustain, an organisation which helps promote sustainable development. He has worked on zero-energy, passive and sustainable housing projects both within the US and internationally.
Dieterich appeared as a public witness to a DC Council hearing on the Minimum Wage, Living Wage, and Millennial Tiny Housing Amendment Act of 2015 and has spoken to the United States Congress with Expo 2015 on the management of natural resources and in favour of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Buildings
Dieterich became President of RISE Industries, a startup company which constructs modular buildings out of shipping containers. In October 2016, he wrote for and featured on the cover of Schools Planning and Management, where he discussed the positive aspects of passive design approaches for school buildings, as well as the Green Schools National Network.
In 2017 gave a speech to the in Maryland on the benefits of sustainable development in educational environments.
Speaking career
Dieterich started speaking professionally in 2008 regarding green business, most recently in a TEDx Talk about a "zero energy, water, and waste future." Dieterich produced a short documentary which won a Best Shorts Award of Merit in November 2014.
