Michael B. Stewart (soccer player)

Michael B. Stewart (born 29 June 1991) is an American soccer player. He is notable for beginning his career at Eastern New Mexico University where he achieved many game winning goals and lead his team to the first time conference title. He made many caps as a professional soccer player.

Early life and career

Michael Stewart was born as one of six children to a Baptist family in Somerset, Texas. He began playing soccer at the young age of ten in Katy, Texas. He began his career with a youth club and went on to play at Cinco Ranch High School. He eventually obtained a scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University where he played for four years. During his college career he also played USL-PDL for the Midland Sockers for two seasons. Just after graduation in May 2013 he landed his first professional contract with the Kitsap Pumas. Here he played against Major League Soccer teams including: Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Portland Timbers. He was also invited on several trials to teams including the: MLS Colorado Rapids, USL VSI Tampa, and USL Dayton Dutch Lions FC.

Born in Somerset, Texas. Lived in Katy, Texas. Played in New Mexico and Washington.

High School

Playing at Cinco Ranch High School, Michael Stewart was on the varsity squad his Junior and Senior year where the cougars in the year 2009 qualified for Texas 5 A State Championships. His team lost in the Semi-Finals against state champions Flowermound Marcos.

College

Michael played at Eastern New Mexico University in the Lone Star Conference under head coach Harold Munoz for four years. Here he achieved Four Time All-Conference Defender, First Team All-Region Defender, Second Team All-Region Defender, Three Time All-Academic Player (Max Possible), and Scholar Athlete of the year (only male soccer player chosen between twelve different schools).

Freshman Year

Michael started all games except two at center and outside back where he achieved Second Team All Conference Defender.

Sophomore Year

Michael played in and started all the games as a center and outside back where he achieved First Team All Conference as well as All-Academic Team. Scored game winning headers against UTPB and Wayland Baptist University.

Junior Year

Michael started in all the games as a center back where he achieved First Team All-Conference Defender, Second Team All-Region, and All-Academic Team. As captain, he lead his team to the best season of ENMU history as well as winning the Lone Star Conference for the first time in the school's history. He scored 4 game winning headers, five goals total coinciding with six assists. He also scored the game winning header against powerhouse and ranked number two in the nation Midwestern State University which was the first time in school history to have beaten that team, two game winning headers against powerhouse and ranked ninth in the nation West Texas ATM University.

Senior Year

Michael started in all the games as a center back where he achieved First Team All-Conference Defender, First Team All-Region Defender, All-Academic Defender and Scholar Athlete of the year. He scored six headers during this season including one game winning header against national powerhouse Incarnate Word University, one against national powerhouse Midwestern State University and another against national powerhouse West Texas ATM University. Eight assists also coincided with his 6 goals.

Professional career

Played professionally for Kitsap Pumas in Washington State where he rivaled MLS Teams such as Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders, and Portland Timbers.

Played in the USL-PDL for Houston Dutch Lions FC as well as Midland Sockers FC
