Metropolitan Manila Area earthquake prediction
Since Metro Manila lies in a fault line, the Marikina Valley Fault System, a possible earthquake was expected to hit with a magnitude ranging from 7-8. Some organizations, including the United Nations, had confirmed the possible earthquake could hit anytime. Senator Loren Legarda held an open discussion forum with the officials of the Arroyo administration and Arjun Kartoch to assess the preparedness of Metro Manila and institute measures to mitigate the impact of the quake on both population and infrastructure. Millions of lives would be affected if the earthquake struct the metropolitan area of the Philippines, thus hurting it's communications, economy, industry, politics and tourism.

The earthquake would instantly kill three million people from building collapse. Another additional of 300,000 estimated to be added in death toll due to shocks, unexpected explosion, stampede and other causes. Fires are expected to devastate 32% of Metro Manila, mostly of residential. Most skyscraper are to collapse resulting in death and damage. Medical facilities would be shut down and infrastructures would be severly damaged. A month without electricity would follow. Lack of foods and looting would ensue throughout the Metropolitan Area. It can generate a tsunami, either from Manila Bay or Laguna de Bay.
