Memnarch
Memnarch is a fictional character from the trading card game Magic: The Gathering. Memnarch is the creation of Karn, the silver golem. He appeared in the Mirrodin books. He is also a card in the trading card game.
History
After the events of Odyssey and Onslaught, the silver golem planeswalker Karn gave the Mirari life using his powers. He named The New lifeform "Memnarch". Memnarch was originally created to watch over the planet "Argentum", and was left to do this job alone until Karn would return. He later grew lonely on the lifeless planet, so he brought life to Argentum, calling it his "Grand Experiment". He then renamed the planet, changing its name to "Mirrodin" after his past existence. But when he discovered the blinkmoth serum, a chemical that enhances the brain's activity, he started taking it in massive doses. The result was insanity. Eventually Memnarch became power-hungry and sought the state of planeswalker so he could find his beloved master. However, the blinkmoth serum was not the only cause of Memnarch's insanity: a few decades after Karn left Argentum, Memnarch found a small amount of Glistening Oil, brought to Argentum mistakenly and unknowingly by Karona, Sash and Waistcoat. When Memnarch found the oil, he cleaned it up with his hand, and the oil started taking control. It was the Oil that was the underlying factor in Memnarch's madness, a madness worsened by the blinkmoth serum, which was so powerful, it prevented Karn from returning to his own world.
Appearance
Though originally a humanoid golem, at the time the Mirrodin novels take place Memnarch looks somewhat like a crab, with four spiderlike legs and two stubby arms. He has six eyes, and a large dome on his head. His body is, for the most part, made of shiny blue metal, but he also has some squishy bits.
