McMaster school of Rehabilitation Science
The McMaster School of Rehabilitation Science was established in 1989 and provides exemplary, self-directed, problem-based educational programs at the graduate level.
The School has 27 university and 190 clinical and professional faculty and associate faculty members who provide clinical placements, tutoring and teaching. Small group tutorials consisting of six to seven students and a faculty member provide opportunities to explore clinical cases and professional issues based on the philosophies of the concept known world-wide as the McMaster Approach.
Through their excellence in problem-based education and collaborative research, the faculty and staff are continually acknowledged for their ongoing contributions to the advancement of Rehabilitation Science and Health Care.
Program Options
Currently, the program offers two Master's degree options: thesis option which May Be undertaken on a full or part-time basis and online course-based option which is offered by distance education. The Ph.D. program was introduced in 2006 and is pending OCGS approval.
The McMaster Approach
The McMaster Approach to health sciences education is founded on the belief that the study of health encompasses not only the problems of illness, but also the impact of biological processes, environment and LifeStyle on the individual, the community and society. Community oriented, people-centered, interdisciplinary, and problem-based, this approach has become a hallmark of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and has been adopted in whole or in part by many universities around the world.
