Mayfield Junior School

Mayfield Junior School of the Holy Child Jesus is an independent Catholic grade school in Pasadena, California. It was established in 1931 by Society of the Holy Child Jesus, which was founded in the 19th century by Cornelia Connelly, an English nun. It is part of a group of sister schools throughout the rest of the United States and a few in other continents.

It is located on 405 South Euclid Avenue, Pasadena, California 91101. The school gets its name from the place where Connelly was buried, Mayfield Cemetery in England. The school goes from kindergarten to eighth grade. At its beginning Mayfield was run entirely by nuns but is not any more due to the lack of nuns in the United States.

The principal of Mayfield Junior School is Stephanie Griffin. There are aprroximately 450 children attending the school As of 2006, with the amount increasing yearly. Notable Mayfield events include the Harvest Festival (held annually the Friday before Halloween), the eighth grade play, and blue and white day (a day of fun games with the entire school). Some major field trips are the 6th grade trip to Joshua Tree, the 7th grade trip to Catalina, and the eighth grade trips to France or Spain. In the 2006/2007 school year, many seventh graders were mad AbOUT the Astrocamp trip being moved to the sixth grade year before they were able to go On It. As of the 2007-2008 school year, the Spain and France trips have been discontinued.
