Matt Korthuis

Matt Korthuis (born 22 September 1981) is a Dutch ice hockey player currently playing for the Melbourne Ice in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Playing career

Korthuis first played for the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in 2000. Playing in his first season Korthuis recorded 44 points in 57 for the 2000–01 season. After two seasons with the Bruins Korthuis left moved to the Netherlands and signed with the Nijmegen Devils of the Dutch Eredivisie league. Korthuis remained with the Devils for only one season before moving to the Friesland Flyers of the same league for the start of the 2004–05 season. Korthuis remained with the Flyers for two seasons recording a total of 121 points in 94 games. Starting the 2006-07 Eredivisie season Korthuis signed with the Amstel Tijgers. Korthuis won his first Dutch Cup with the team after they won the 2007 Dutch Cup tournament. He remained at the club for only one season before signing with HYS The Hague for the start of the 2007-08 season. Korthuis played for HYS The Hague for five season from 2007 until 2012, winning the 2012 Dutch Cup and the 2009 and 2011 Dutch Championship. At the end of the 2011-12 season Korthuis moved to Australia and signed with the Melbourne Ice of the Australian Ice Hockey League. In his first season with the Ice he won the 2012 Goodall Cup.

Korthuis was first selected to represent the Netherlands in 2007 where he joined the national senior team to compete in the 2007 IIHF World Championship Division I Group A tournament being played in Qiqihar, China. The Netherlands finished fifth while Korthuis seven points in his five games. Korthuis represented the Netherlands again at the 2008 IIHF World Championship Division I Group A tournament and the 2009 IIHF World Championship Division I Group B tournament. The Netherlands again finished fifth in both tournaments while Korthuis managed four points at the 2008 tournament and five in 2009.

Matt Korthuis was born on 22 September 1981 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
