Matos Maneuver

Matos Maneuver is a Manual Therapy Technique created by Nuno Matos in 1997 and registered in 2002. The maneuver is based on an adaptation of the long sitting with the application of a cranial handle, with the aim to lengthen the posterior muscular chain and focusing on neuro-meningeal structures simultaneously.

The Matos Maneuver was created in order to address the lack of efficient techniques for the simultaneous lengthening of all chains, neuromeningeal, posterior muscular chain and miomeningeal chain. It allows to focus on the structures and fascial aponevrosis, since the insertion of the suboccipital muscles, more precisely, Smaller Posterior Rectus Muscle of Head is at the dura mater. Thus, it is possible to achieve higher mobility than the other techniques, being extremely effective in any shrinkage of the 3 chains.

The Matos Maneuver was presented in Estoril on the 1st International Congress of the Portuguese Association of Physiotherapists - Manual Therapy Special Interest Group (IFOMT - ECE) 2002 and in Barcelona on the 14th International WCPT Congress 2003.
