Mark Qura Rankin (born July 17, 1973, in London, England), better known as "Q" or Q The Musiq, is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, television and award winning film composer and platinum producer.

Early MusicAL career

  • 1989 Began touring and playing professionally with Brian Powell, (Talking Loud)
  • 1990 Toured with Jools Holland
  • 1992 Released five interludes for the album "Soul Stirring" the first gospel record of its kind on Island Records UK
  • 1994 Moved to the USA working with various artists through Nashville and Atlanta
  • 1996 Worked with Ronnie Jordon (Polydor)
  • 1997 Signed with Universal Records (publishing) and toured Asia and Europe Jazz festivals such as North Sea Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival with jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock and Ernest Ranglin, and the late Lynden David Hall (Island Records)
  • 2000 Produced "Live in London" with Grammy Award-winning, Donnie McClurkin. The album went on to sell over 2.5 million copies and spurred the hit single "We Fall Down" which :became the most requested song across American radio
  • 2001 Pianist on Europe's hit music TV show Top of the POPS with artists Kylie Minogue, Gabriel, KC and JoJo, Alexander O'Neil, Mica Paris, Gwen Dicky, Denise Williams, Candy Stanton, Kavanar, Andre & Sandra Crouch, Darren Hays, LaTricia McNeil and Alicia's Attic among others
  • 2002 Ceased touring, shifting focus to music production only

Career

  • 2003 Co-produced Andrew Lloyd Webber's artist, Shougnah Daley entitled "When The Cedars Fell", and "Make it Right" with Christian Ingebrigsten (Universal Records)
  • 2004 Produced "If You Don't Know Me By Now" with Babyface for the movie "Mr. 3000" starring Bernie Mac
  • 2005 Produced "Pillow Talk" for R&B Group N2U (Virgin)
  • 2006 Produced "Oh Mother" and "On Our Way" for Christina Aguilera elevating him to multi-platinum status with 9.5 million World wide sales
  • 2006 Co-produced "First Time" for Fabolous and Rihanna for Fabolous' 2007 Gold selling album "From Nothing to Something," with mult-platinum recording artist/producer Tank
  • 2007 Scored music for The Boondocks on the Cartoon Network
  • 2007 Scored music for American Gangster which ranked number one in series premieres, also drawing 1.6 million viewers, making it the number one telecast original series in BET's history
  • 2007 Signed to legendary TV composer Mike Post (Magnum PI, A-Team, Hill Street Blues, Law and Order), and worked on Law and Order and independent film Poker House
  • 2009 Released Gospel album Taking it Back with artist Nicole "Faithful" Franklin
  • 2010 Developed and Signed 14yr old Rock prodigy Evan Hawk to Def Jam Records
  • 2011 Composed Documentary, “New York Says Thank You” aired September 11th on New York Times Square's Jumbotron, playing for 3 days as well as various LandMark cinemas Nationwide. Winner of Tribeca film Festival
  • 2013 Co-produced Brazilian Boy band P9 (Sony)
  • 2014 Co-produced "Charades" with his protege Roccstar for J.Lo’s AKA album

Business development

  • 2014 Partnered in an artist development company GAME CHANGERS MEDIA GROUP, developing upcoming acts for 2015
  • 2014 Founder of The Regnum Opes Group a Neuroscience & Music Company- Launching applications and products Spring/Summer of 2015
