Mark Powell (radio personality)

Mark Powell is a Welsh radio presenter, born in Aberfan in 1971. He currently presents the Mark Powell Drive Show on The Wave 96.4 FM in Swansea and is a well known presenter throughout South Wales, involved with stations such as Valleys Radio, Galaxy 101, Red Dragon FM, Gold Radio and The Wave. He has also worked on TFM Radio. He has a habit of saying Lets face facts AbOUT it.

Career

When Powell left school, he joined his local hospital radio station as a volunteer presenter. He sent his demo tape to local stations Red Dragon FM and Galaxy 101. Both stations offered him a spot, but Mark went with Galaxy Radio, presenting weekdays 2-6.

Mark then moved to Red Dragon FM for the late show. After this he accepted the offer of presenting the drivetime slot for a year but soon after the station was sold.

He then arrived at TFM Radio, presenting the 10am - 1pm slot. He once did his show [...] in protest of the lack of cool air in the studio. The story with a photo got onto page 7 of the Daily Sport. Mark states that this period was "one of the happiest of his life" and has a love for the North East of England.

Powell is noted for his comedy and entertainment on the radio. He stated, "If something makes me laugh, I get it on the show, sometimes people forget we are trying to entertain as well as play the songs."

The Wave and Valleys

Mark Powell presented the mid morning show on The Wave 96.4 FM until 2008, where he was transfered to sister station Valleys Radio to present the breakfast show. However, Mark freelanced with The Wave, doing the Saturday morning show. After a couple of months, owners of Valleys Radio, UTV, announced they would be shutting the station down on 30th April 2009, after just over 13 years of being on air. Therefore Mark arrived back at The Wave to host the drive show. (See: The Mark Powell Drive Show for more.)

Gold

Mark has also presented a show on Gold Radio in Cardiff which broadcasts to South East Wales.
