Mark H Barratt
Mark H. Barratt (born March 17, 1956) is an American novelist.
Barratt self-published his first book, a fiction novel, Guardian of Heaven: One, in 2006. One is the first in a series of fives books that tells the story of a prophet, sent to earth at the end of this civilization by God to defend Israel.
Barratt was born in American Fork, Utah on St Patricks Day, 1956. His family moved to Anchorage, Alaska and opened the Holiday Hotel. At the age of 8 Barratt experienced the Great Alaskan Earthquake of 1964, in which most of Anchorage was destroyed. The Barratts' hotel was spared, and their business subsequently flourished.
Barratt's teenage years were spent exploring the Alaskan wilderness with his family and friends. It was during this time, at the age of 16, that he conceived the basic story for The Guardian of Heaven.
After graduation Barratt served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Argentina. He labored during a dangerous time of political upheaval, including the removal of Isabel Peron from office by the Argentine military in 1976. In one incident, Barratt and his missionary companion were lined up in front of machine guns. Apparently the officer in charge was only interested in frightening the young missionaries, and they were released.
Upon completion of his two-year mission, Barratt returned home and attended college, receiving a Master's degree in engineering. He married a "country girl" from North Carolina, and over time the couple had eight children.
The family moved to Texas and purchased a small ranch. Barratt continued work as a communications engineer until 2003. He began work on the first Guardian book in 2005.
