Marcelo B. Javier Jr.

Brigadier General Marcelo B. Javier Jr. (born April 22, 1945) is a Filipino Brigadier General and is the incumbent commanding general of the 15th Infantry Division (Ready Reserve), Army Reserve Command.

Personal life

Marcelo B. Javier Jr. is the son of Lieutenant Marcelo Banas Javier Sr., a World War II Filipino Officer and a member of the ROTC Hunters Unit who perished in the war when Marcelo Jr was born. He is also the grandson of Major Miguel Bonifacio, an Officer of the Philippine Scouts. Both his father and grandfather perished in the war at the defense of Singalong, Manila during the bloodiest days of the battle of Manila.

He is married to the former Cynthia Manas and had three (3) children, namely: Marco, Cybel, and Camille Javier.

Education

Brigadier General Javier Jr or more fondly called by his peers as "Elo" took up his primary education from St. Mary's College and graduated in 1958 and then taking up a more vocation approach to secondary education at Don Bosco, graduating in 1962. He took up a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foreign Service from the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus and graduated in 1966. He was a graduate scholar of the Government of France after graduating college but had to return to the Philippines in 1988 due to the resent civil unrest in Paris that same year.

Military career

Brigadier General Javier Jr started his military career when he joined the UP Vanguards while he was earning his Bachelor's Degree. He finished both Basic and Advance Courses in Military Science and had been appointed by the UP ROTC Commandant as a Cadet Officer.

General Javier Jr was commissioned in 1968, pursuant to Executive Order No. 138 series of 1968, authorizing the appointment of Marcelo B. Javier Jr. to rank of Second Lieutenant in the Reserve Force of the Philippine Army. Marcelo B. Javier Jr, then an Army Colonel assumed command of the 15th Infantry Division (Ready Reserve) on July 10, 2006. Marcelo Javier Jr. rose from the ranks until he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 2012.
