Mao Linsheng

Mao Linsheng (; born January 1954) is a retired Chinese politician who served as vice chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress from 2013 to 2017. During his political career, he held a number of senior positions in Zhejiang Province, including Vice Governor of Zhejiang, mayor of Hangzhou, Communist Party secretary of Quzhou, head of the Publicity Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, and deputy secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress.

Biography

Mao was born in Tiantai County, Zhejiang, in January 1954. He began his career in January 1971 as a soldier in the People's Liberation Army. After leaving military service in 1976, he worked at the Linhai Fertilizer Plant before studying at Zhejiang Institute of Chemical Technology, the predecessor of Zhejiang University of Technology. He subsequently held several positions in the university's Communist Youth League organization before becoming secretary of the Communist Youth League of China Zhejiang Provincial Committee in 1985.

In 1991, Mao was appointed a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party Committee of Huzhou and Party secretary of Changxing County. He was transferred to the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party Zhejiang Provincial Committee in 1994, serving as deputy head while concurrently directing the Zhejiang Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission. During this period, he completed postgraduate studies in economics at Zhejiang University and later earned an Executive Master of Business Administration degree.

Mao became Communist Party secretary of Quzhou in 1998, concurrently serving as chairman of the Standing Committee of the Quzhou Municipal People's Congress. In January 2002, he was appointed deputy Party secretary of Hangzhou and acting mayor, and was formally elected mayor in April 2002.

In April 2004, Mao was promoted to Vice Governor of Zhejiang, serving until January 2010. He subsequently became a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and head of its Publicity Department. In July 2012, he was appointed deputy secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress.

In January 2013, Mao was elected vice chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress. He also served as secretary of its Party Leadership Group from 2014 until January 2017. He stepped down as Party secretary in January 2017 and retired from his position as vice chairman in March 2017 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.

Mao was a member of the 11th and 12th Central Committees of the Communist Youth League of China, an alternate member of the 8th and 9th Zhejiang Provincial Committees of the Chinese Communist Party, a full member of the 10th and 11th Zhejiang Provincial Committees, a deputy to the 6th and 9th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress, a member of the 8th and 9th Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the 7th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a deputy to the 10th National People's Congress.
