Manu Kumar Jain (born 25 January 1981) is a leading Indian entrepreneur and the global Vice President of Xiaomi, 5th largest smartphone maker in the world. He is the Managing Director of Xiaomi India. Manu is from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and did his mechanical engineering from IIT Delhi and MBA from IIM Calcutta.

He co-founded Jabong.com, one of the leading fashion and lifestyle e-commerce portals in India. He was also the Managing Director of Jabong.com from February 2012 to January 2014.

Early life and education

Manu was born and brought up in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh in India. He went on to pursue his B.Tech course in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi and graduated in 2003. He also secured an MBA from The INDIAN Institute of Management Calcutta in 2007.

Business career

Manu started out as a Software Engineer at Headstrong that was later acquired by Genpact, a global consulting and IT services company. He was with Headstrong for 2 years from 2003 to 2005.

Post his MBA from IIM Calcutta, he joined McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm, in 2005. At McKinsey, he worked across multiple functions and sectors, such as sales & marketing, retail, FMCG, and automobiles. After spending almost 5 years in the company from 2007 to 2011, he went on to explore his entrepreneurial skills And Co-founded Jabong.

Jabong

In 2012 beginning, he co-founded and took up the post of the Managing Director of Jabong, one of the leading fashion and lifestyle e-commerce portals in India. He established and grew the company from inception. Manu, along with the other co-founders revolutionized the fashion e-commerce industry in India. Within a short period of 2 years, Jabong became India’s leading fashion & lifestyle online retailer. In 2014, he moved out of the company to explore his interest in smartphones.

Xiaomi India

In May 2014 he was appointed as the Country Manager and Managing Director of Xiaomi India. Manu started out as 1st employee at Xiaomi India and worked towards making it a notable smartphone brand in India. As of 2017 beginning, Xiaomi India had more than 250 employees and had become the No.1 smartphone brand within the online segment, with more than 47% market share within the online segment in India during Q2 2017 (as per IDC). Under Manu's management, Xiaomi launched it's Make in India campaign and established two manufacturing plants in the country. Manu has ever since successfully led the operations of Xiaomi India and the company has went on to become the 2nd largest smartphone brand in India (across online and offline), with ~17%+ market share in Q2 2017 (as per IDC).

Xiaomi

He was appointed as the global Vice President of Xiaomi in January 2017. He was made the VP of the company, after Hugo Barra left the smartphone makers in 2017.

Xiaomi India's achievements under Manu's leadership

Personal life

Manu is a doting father, loving husband, amateur cartoonist, passionate marketer and a dreamer. He firmly believes that work and personal life has to go hand in hand. His weekends are strictly reserved for his family and in his spare time, he loves to babysit his son and spend time with his wife.

Other interests

He is a wannabe cartoonist. He has co-created a cartoon series called DINK couple along with his wife, which was inspired from his real life experiences.
