Manoel Amorim

Manoel Luis Farrao Amorim (born 1959) is the CEO of the Brazilian Telecommunications firm Telefonica. He previously served as the first director of AOL Brazil.

Amorim was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Athos M. Amorim and his wife, the former Maria Farrao. When still a youth Manoel Amorim joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) with his parents.

Amorim received a degree from the Military Institute of Engineering in Rio. He also served as a missionary for the LDS Church in Sao Paulo.

In 1990, Amorim received an MBA from Harvard Business School. Amorim began his business career in marketing. He worked for Procter and Gamble's Latin American division and eventually became a business unit general manager before leaving P&G for AOL Brazil in early 2000. Amorim left AOL for Telefonica in 2001. By 2006 Telefonica, with Amorim as CEO, had become the third largest corporation in Brazil.

For a time starting in 1993, Amorin served as a counselor in the Osasco Brazil Stake Presidency of the LDS Church. He is married to Marcia Do Carmen De Sousa.
