Malacoda (band)
Malacoda is a Canadian heavy metal band.
Biography
Malacoda was formed in 2014 by multi-instrumentalist Lucas Di Mascio. Originally Malacoda started off as a recording project for him to put out his own music while he played bass for former Eidolon vocalist, Pat Mulock's band Phear. Working with Joel Kazmi (Sum 41, Rush, The Tea Party), who produced and engineered the as yet to be released self-titled debut, every song was written by Lucas with some songs being tweaked in the arrangement and melodic departments by Joel. The only other personnel on the recording of the album were a few vocalists that had recorded with Joel in the past, as well as session drummer Da-Rell Clifton and session guitarist Matthew Phillip who played all of the guitar solos. The album was mastered by Larry Lachman.
Many musicians were auditioned for the live aspect of the recording project and this is when the band started to take shape and become its own entity. Having to engage full-time with Malacoda's inner workings in order to keep it afloat, Lucas left all of his other projects to focus solely on Malacoda. While the band is still fairly new and still auditioning some members, it made some success by catching the attention of various individuals within the music and radio broadcast industry.
Lyrical themes
Many of the band's lyrics use various aspects of mythology, ranging from gorgons in Greek mythology as well as Christian aspects. It should be stated that while the lyrics may seem grandiose and epic in scope, they shouldn't be taken at face value. Using these stories as metaphors for personal aspects of Lucas' own life, the lyrics are meant to be open to interpretation yet still be enjoyed at face value.
