MAK Lubricants
MAK Lubricants is a brand of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited which markets lubricants in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and middle-east. Headquartered at Ballard Estate, Mumbai, MAK Lubricants markets lubricants for indutrial sector, marine sector, commercial vehicles, passenger car segment, four-stroke and two-stroke bikes. It also markets greases for all applications.
History
BPCL has been marketing lubricants and greases for more than two decades now. However, in 2003 it decided to bring all its lubricants & grease products under a single umbrella brand- MAK. Since then, MAK has brought almost all of its products under MAK Lubricants brand name.
Production
Base Oil for MAK Lubricants is produced at state-of-the-art Mumbai Refinery. Currently, this refinery produces Group II SN65, SN150 and SN500 base oils. These base oils are mainly used in manufacturing of low viscosity oils , mainly used in engines. Havey viscosity base oil, known as bright STOCK, is used in manufacturing of gear oils. MAK Lubricants purchases bright stock from other oil marketing companies, like IOCL and HPCL. BPCL even purchases base oil from international markets depending upon prevailing rates. Currently, there are four blending and filling plants, viz. Wadilube in Mumbai, Loni in Delhi, Tonidarpet in Chennai and Budge Budge in Kolkata. Finished products from these plants is moved through tank lorries to supply locations all over India. Currently, there are 60 approx supply locations.
Administration
MAK Lubricants has marketing offices in all major cities of India. Marketing setup consists of four regions, viz. North, South, West and East. Each region has territory setup under it. Currently, there are 28 territories all over India.
Marketing
MAK Lubricants is a very young brand as compared to established brands like Castrol and Servo. However, off late it has started making its presence felt in India and has been increasing its market share steadily. MAK Lubricants associates its brand with youth and participates in lot of youth festivals. It has also been associated with car and bike rallies.
Brand Ambassadors
Captain of Indian Cricket Team Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the brand ambassador of MAK Lubricants. Dhoni has been associated With It since 2007. MAK Lubricants uses Shoni in all its print and television media campaigns. However, because of poor marketing budgets, association between Dhoni and MAK Lubricants has not left any indelible mark on consumers' minds.
