Major Clubs T20 Tournament
The Major Clubs T20 Tournament is a domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Sri Lanka. Organized by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), it features the country's top first-class clubs.
History
The SLC Twenty20 Tournament was established in 2004 following the global rise of the T20 format. While domestic cricket in Sri Lanka has historically been dominated by the three-day (first-class) and 50-over (List A) formats, the T20 tournament was introduced to modernize the local structure and adapt to the international calendar.
In 2020, the competition was replaced by the Major Clubs T20 Tournament as part of a restructuring of Sri Lanka's domestic cricket, aligning it with the newly established "Major Clubs" category for first-class teams.
In recent years, the tournament has been characterized by intense competition between Colombo's "Big Three"—SSC, NCC, and CCC. The 2025 edition saw Colombo Cricket Club crowned champions after defeating Panadura Sports Club by 6 wickets in the final.
The 2026 season of the Major Clubs T20 Tournament is scheduled to play in May.
Format
The tournament typically involves 14 to 26 clubs divided into groups. The initial stage follows a round-robin format, leading to a knockout stage consisting of quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final.
